FLUXspace at the TATE! Cat Culture!

Our trip to the Tate Modern in May 2010 is REAL. I know, our April Fools Press Release threw some of you off, but the joke was that it is not a joke! You know what else is not a joke? The relationship between the exchange rate and our bank account. Unfortunately, this ain't no Kensington Keg Party! This has more of like a Kensington Palace Price Tag... So, please, for the first time ever, help us get the FLUXspace passport stamped on it's way to the TATE MODERN!

We need your help! If you can, please donate to the Cat Culture Cause by clicking on the doante button below:

As an added bonus:

If you pledge anywhere from $7 to $39.99, you get a postcard mailed to you from London!!!!

If you pledge 40 buckos or more, you get a "TOTES FLUX TOTES" hand screen-printed tote-bag in addition to the post card!!!!

FLUXspace presents
KAT CULCHUR
No Soul For Sale – A Festival of Independents
Tate Modern, Turbine Hall, May 14 – 16, 2010

In celebration of it's 10th anniversary, the Tate Modern will host No Soul For Sale – A Festival of Independents. The festival brings together over 70 of the world’s most exciting independent art spaces, non-profit organizations, and artists’ collectives, from Philadelphia to Shanghai to Rio de Janeiro, to take over the iconic Turbine Hall with an eclectic mix of arts events, performances, music, and film. Neither a fair nor an exhibition, No Soul For Sale is a convention of individuals and groups who present work beyond the limits of the market – it is a celebration of the independent forces that animate contemporary art by inventing new strategies for the distribution and presentation of artistic practice.

FLUXspace presents Kat Culchur at No Soul for Sale at the Tate Modern:

The last known domestic cat, Snuggleboots, died yesterday at age 17 in Grand Rapids, MI. Snuggleboots died in his owner’s arms surrounded by onlookers and fans who traveled from around the world for the last chance to see him alive. His owner, Patty Johnson, was in tears as Snuggleboots’ breathing became increasingly labored and finally came to a heart-wrenching end.

(Flachsbart, Harold. “Country Mourns Death of Last Known Domestic Cat.” New York Times, March 13, 2019, Front Page.)

As part of the international art exposition at the Tate Modern, FLUXspace will present a rare collection of late 20th and early 21st century feline ephemera and artifacts, attempting to capture that uniquely fin de siècle phenomenon: cat culture. The installation will feature a replica of an inflatable apparatus believed to be used by domesticated cats as a leisure time activity, and will be accompanied by a publication featuring primary documents and related materials culled by the collaborative research team at FLUXspace. The installation at the Tate Modern will be followed by a full-scale exhibition at FLUXspace, Philadelphia, PA in June 2010.

Kat Culchur is presented at the Tate Modern through the generous support of the Buddy Taub Foundation, a travel grant from the Philadelphia Exhibitions Initiative of the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, and individual donors.

FLUXspace is a Philadelphia based 501(c)3 contemporary cultural space that provides a platform for unrestricted intellectual and creative inquiry. We seek to explore relevant cultural phenomenon that is under examined, unfamiliar or of uncertain importance.
