The FLUX Mission:

FLUXspace is a Philadelphia based 501(c)3 contemporary cultural space that provides a platform for unrestricted intellectual and creative inquiry. We seek to explore relevant cultural phenomenon that is under examined, unfamiliar or of uncertain importance. We are interested in challenging the traditionally passive role of the viewer and conventional understanding(s) of art making. As a collaborative, we aim to be agents of the same intellectual and creative inquiry in order to challenge standard notions of cultural value. We reject individualism in favor of other models of work, social responsibility, and generosity.

History

FLUXspace developed alongside the growth of the artistic community at Art Making Machine Studios. The founding artists saw a need and opportunity to provide a service—in addition to affordable studio space and facilities—to the art community of Philadelphia. Since its inception, the mission of FLUXspace has been to provide a venue for experimental and groundbreaking work that might not find a site elsewhere in the city. Founded in February 2007, FLUXspace has endeavored to support innovative, bold, and thought-provoking exhibitions and projects.

Mission Statement:

FLUXspace is a Philadelphia based 501(c)3 contemporary arts space which provides artists, curators, and other practitioners the opportunity for unrestricted and uncensored experimentation, professional presentation, and critical dialogue for the purpose of exploring and creating new art practices and media. FLUX consists of an exhibition space, an artist residency program, as well as public programming including artist lectures, panel discussions, workshops, movie nights and performances.
