I can tell you that jumping out of a plane is an intense experince but unless you have jumped out of a plane yourself, you can never understand what that really feels like. The information and the event are incongruous; the sum is more than the total of the parts.
Similarly, performance art is intended to be witnessed, experienced. The performance work that we are familiar with has been introduced to us through pictures and stories, coloqualisms and artifacts. Although these methods often work to relay the information of what occurred during a performance they do not get us any closer to the sensation of the event.

FLUXspace is proud to announce “Real Illusions, Actual Events: New Performance Work”. In an attempt to nurture and promote the intensity and vitality of performance art, Flux is hosting four separate performances to affect the public. These works will occur simultaneously in different areas of the exhibition space for the duration the night. As the nature of this work they will be gone the next day, this one night event is not to be missed.

The seven participating artists will utilize their phyical bodies to explore themes ranging from tacit knowledge to
adolescent-gender-identity. The objects they will employ have origins in theater, temple and everyday life. But this show is far from everyday life

“Performance art does not present the illusion of events but rather presents actual events as art.”
