For Immediate Release:
Every Artist is a Person

November 5 - 19, 2007
Opening Reception: November 8

FLUXSpace is pleased to present the upcoming exhibition, Every Artist is a Person.
This two-week exhibition will be engaging its audience from Monday, November 5 to Monday, November 19 and is not to be missed.

Please join us from 6-9PM on Thursday, November 8th for an opening reception with alcoholic premiums and fine food. This exhibition will feature the work of 12 interdisciplinary artists currently based in Philadelphia who are also MFA candidates from Temple University/Tyler School of Art.

The title, Every Artist is a Person is drawn from a statement made by artist Martin Kippenberger in the 1980's. It was a critique of the idea that "Every person is an artist," as upheld by the eccentric artist-as- shaman Joseph Bueys in the 1960's. These quotes contradict one another to form a dialectic of art and life by simultaneously declaring and questioning the function and responsibility of artists. In the spirit of Kippenberger, each work in the show reflects the post-modern position of the artist while simultaneously attempting to find mutual regard within this dialectic.

The pieces being shown, installed, and performed range not only in medium but, also in purpose and agency. Each artist pulls, in his or her own way, from the archives of collective memory and experience. When viewed through the lens of the everyday, the works reflect personal meditations on art, identity, entertainment, and history.

Best Regards,
